Did you know that if your pet has already had vaccinations during his/her lifetime, they may well have adequate antibody levels for years to come, and therefore may not need a vaccination.

Titre testing is a blood test used to check whether your dog still has protective antibody levels against core diseases such as distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus, helping owners make informed decisions about unnecessary repeat vaccinations.

A titre test can be carried out any time as long as it has been 4 weeks since the last vaccination. This is particularly useful if determining whether puppy vaccinations have been successful, as there is a risk that Maternally Derived Antibodies (MDAs), have interfered with the vaccinations given following the initial puppy vaccination course.

Not all diseases can be tested for and some vaccines are still required depending on your pet’s environmental exposure. The purpose of this is to cease unnecessary vaccinations where immunity can be strongly suggested by antibody presence and to reduce the risk of potential acute vaccine reactions and chronic side effects of over-vaccination.

This Vacci Check Test Only option is for owners who cannot attend our in store clinics to have the blood sample taken, or who require testing between clinic dates. In these cases, your own veterinary practice can take the blood sample, which can then be brought to us for testing.

Charges for blood sampling at veterinary practices may vary, so we would recommend contacting your practice directly for pricing. Based on enquiries so far, this may typically cost in the region of £40–£60. When enquiring about a blood sample with your vet, they will ask you what it is for, so you will need to inform them that it is for a Vacci Check, and that you need a sample to be either taken in a red or pink top tube (EDTA) or an orange top tube (Lithium Heparin).

Please note:
• Samples must be brought to us within 24 hours
• Samples should be refrigerated if they cannot be delivered on the same day
• Please check our opening days/times to ensure that samples are taken no more than 24 hours before we are next open.
